More than Skin Deep
The potential for Tocotrienols in skincare is suggested in recent studies that show the isomers' effect on skin whitening. Tocotrienols could play an important function in whitening or/and lightening cosmetic products by inhibiting the synthesis of melanin , a type of pigmentation that causes skin darkening.
Other recent research has shown that Tocotrienols are effective against both ultraviolet-induced and self-generated melanin synthesis. Tocotrienols rapidly penetrate skin and efficiently counter the effects of oxidative stress induced by UV radiation or ozone. [19-20]
Researchers in Malaysia have also discovered that Tocotrienols can induce hair growth. In their study, 34.5% of subjects showed positive results after eight months of Tocotrienol supplementation. This effect is probably linked to the potent antioxidant properties of Tocotrienols, which reduce lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress associated with hair loss in the scalp.
